In
1885, Nathan E. Mag (pictured on left) and his brother age 15 and 17 started a
Peddlers route from Springfield, MA north to the Canadian border and back on both
sides of the Connecticut River.
In 1888, while in Vermont, they were caught in the big snows of March. Returning home from Vermont after recovering from Typhoid, Nathan's Fiancee encouraged him to open a store in New Britain, CT.
Starting in 1885 until today, we have had retail and wholesale facilities supplying dress men's clothing, uniforms, and work clothes to groups and individuals. The uniform division always had road salesman serving New England and Eastern NY. As retail declined and the Internet became available, we went national and international.
Our personal touch and philosophy of providing One Stop-Shopping and going out to the customer's place of work or Fire House, has proven to be the key to retaining customers for decades and longer. The increased product offerings widen our appeal to a great range of customers. Our custom made division has expanded to include large people's uniforms and work clothing and custom-made apparel of any type. We now custom make everything from Tee shirts to Turnout Gear for fire departments. Flame retardant, ARC rated clothing expanded our reach into the utility market from meter readers to the service departments. HiVis and EMS protective clothing now mandated by DOT and OSHA increase the need for specialists like us.
Military products such as Battle Dress Uniforms moved into civilian market for Ambulance companies and then military groups came to us. Dress Uniforms for military here and abroad are supplied regularly. MREs, Meals Ready to Eat were added for disaster relief and now many towns buy them for their public safety departments.
Through our associate firms, we supply all types of emergency medial and military equipment, jeeps, and weapons.
The personal touch of our local worldwide firm brings us inquiries from abound the world. Our customer list includes army orders, large fire departments, industrial firms, the U.N. and individuals. We have the ability to source any product quickly and at fair prices. If we do not have an item, we can make it. WE have our US Government Vendor ID number and UN ID number among others.
Now, we are well into our 4th generation of family ownership and management. The 5th generation (age 3) is being groomed. He pushes a very aggressive broom!
